Thank you Alice - a succinct statement. In general, the exchange of stuff does not seem to be the problem. Maybe the problem arises from what the givee does around all of this, "C'est normale" social interaction. Rage against it and you can end up skewered and roasted by your own lack of foresight. Accept it at face value - bartering for time and an honest exchange, and you end up looking, dare I say it, reasonable. Rigidity is dead.

Alice, what an amazing confession! The fact that you avoid spelling out _his_ name makes it almost comical in the self-censorship department. Almost like "utter not its name, lest you summon it."

At any rate, if I ever pick up the tab for a meal with you, would it be forward of me to expect both your body and your approval? I'd hate to foul up years of therapy, but I just gotta be me.

We need to have you back in Sonoma for another visit and interview. Perhaps I'll bring more than one microphone.

Puffeneyb Arbois! I'm giggling because I had this wine at dinner tonight and thought to myself it was a wine that Alice Feiring would love. I certainly liked it...made me want to yodle!

Steve would be invited as well. Went to Dino in DC tonight -- best part of the meal was seeing the table next to us had ordered a bottle of his wine...and they enjoyed it (of course)....
